The Australian British Chamber of Commerce is delighted to invite you to its full-day Energy Transition and Investment Summit in Sydney.
‘What is a Smooth Transition?’
We are pleased to confirm Federal Minister, The Hon Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy, will open the day, followed by Her Excellency Vicki Treadell CMG, MVO, British High Commissioner to Australia, with an array of industry and sector leaders also confirmed to be part of either keynotes, or panel discussions.
The Summit will showcase regional transition in Newcastle/the Hunter and Wollongong/the Illawarra, with learnings from Aberdeen in Scotland, and explore energy precinct design and where investment and growth opportunities lie.
We will tackle the social license for transmission and renewables infrastructure, and hear the latest on the energy market and grid security, as well as introductions to new investors in renewables. Expect the latest on Hydrogen, on and offshore wind, solar, batteries, hydro and the power of gas and renewables to drive transition, and where funders are putting their dollars.

Chris grew up in Smithfield in Western Sydney, attending Smithfield Public School and St Johns Park High School. He graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics. He has also a Master’s Degree in International Relations and a Diploma in Modern Languages (Bahasa Indonesia).
He joined the Labor Party in 1988 and was elected to Fairfield Council in 1995, serving as Mayor of Fairfield for 1998 and 1999. He also served as President of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils from 2000 to 2002.
Chris entered Parliament in 2004 and has held a wide range of portfolios including serving as Treasurer, Minister for Human Services, Minister for Immigration, and Minister for Small Business.
He is currently the Minister for Climate Change and Energy.

Her Excellency Vicki Treadell CMG, MVO took up her appointment as British High Commissioner to Australia on 13 March 2019. As High Commissioner, Mrs Treadell will continue to advance and maintain the relationship between the UK and Australia. The High Commissioner is the UK government’s representative in a Commonwealth nation.
Mrs Treadell has held senior roles in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since she began her Foreign Service career in 1979. Most recently, Mrs Treadell served as the British High Commissioner to Malaysia (2014 to 2019) and New Zealand (2010 to 2014) and Deputy High Commissioner to India (2006 to 2010).
Additionally, Treadell was Director of UK Trade and Investment for the North West of England from 2002 to 2005 where she was responsible for driving trade and investment as a key pillar of regional and economic development.

Lucy has worked for bp since 1998 in Australasia, the US, UK and Europe. In 2022, Lucy was appointed Vice President Hydrogen, ASPAC and the Project Director of the Australian Renewable Energy Hub. Lucy’s portfolio also includes Project GERI in Geraldton, and the Kwinana Energy Hub near Perth.
Lucy serves as Director for the Australian Hydrogen Council and bp Australia and is a member of the Curtin Institute for Energy Transition Advisory Board.

Kellie is an experienced energy and sustainability professional with over 25 years’ experience managing complex private and public sector projects in Australasia. Based in Brisbane, she is committed to helping clients across a range of industries respond to the challenges of the energy transition.
She is focused on just transition to a low-carbon economy, supporting government and industry to unlock future value and opportunities in the growing green economy. Her strong background in strategy, planning and approvals and delivery of large infrastructure initiatives, for the public and private sector places her at the forefront of the energy sector’s transformation.
Nationally, Kellie has supported the Australian Government with energy strategy advisory services, contributing to significant initiatives such as the National Hydrogen Strategy Refresh and National Hydrogen Infrastructure Assessment. She has also led the Decarbonisation of the Great Barrier Reef Island Community Pilot Project for the Queensland Department of Environment and Science to develop community-led resilience projects for First Nations and local Island residents. Kellie is currently supporting the NSW Government to develop regional industrial decarbonisation plans for the Hunter and Illawarra. These projects are Australian firsts where Arup has brought our global expertise and track record for the benefit of the local market.

Brett Redman is a highly experienced energy industry executive at the centre of Australia’s energy transition. He was appointed CEO of Transgrid in November 2021, tasked with leading the build of the nation’s energy super-highways, involving some of Australia’s largest ever transmission projects.
No country in the world is yet running a nation-sized power network with 100% wind and solar generation. Brett is determined to innovate and invest early in building the industry capabilities and capacity to enable Australia’s rapid transition to 100% instantaneous renewable power.
Brett’s three decades of leadership experience include nearly 15 years at AGL Energy, where he was appointed CEO and Managing Director in 2018. He is also the former Chair of the Australian Energy Council.
Brett is a passionate believer that corporates must build their social license as well as the bottom line to be truly successful. He is committed to working across the community to help build an energy market that is reliable, affordable and sustainable. Brett is a proud member of the Champions of Change Coalition, personally taking the lead on gender equality actions.

Damien was appointed interim Chief Executive Officer on 19 September 2022 and confirmed as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer on 19 January 2023. Since joining AGL in March 2013, Damien held several senior executive finance roles before joining the Executive Team as Chief Financial Officer in August 2018.
Damien has more than 28 years' experience across large multinational businesses including Linfox Logistics, Smorgon Steel and Deloitte.
Current Directorships: Chair of the Australian Energy Council and Director of ActewAGL, a joint venture that governs the electricity and gas retailer and distribution businesses in ACT.

With more than A$160 billion funds under management, with a growth trajectory to hit more than A$250 billion in the next few years, Deanne has ensured Aware Super delivers the strongest possible risk-adjusted returns alongside a leading responsible investment approach. She has also ensured the Fund’s focus on providing members with the best guidance and advice for retirement.
Deanne has more than 25 years’ leadership experience in financial services in wealth, superannuation and insurance sectors in Australia and internationally. This includes time as Managing Director with Merrill Lynch Investment management in New York, and as an Engagement Manager with McKinsey and Company in London.
Before joining Aware Super, Deanne was Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Australia and held senior roles within BT Financial Group including as General Manager for Superannuation, Marketing and Direct Channels.
Deanne also serves as a Director of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors and non-profit organisation Redkite.
A hallmark of Deanne’s career has been a passionate commitment to building and maintaining a strong culture and clearly defined purpose to drive business success.
She is also currently a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Pay Equity Ambassador.

Angela Scott has been the Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council since 2014, having been Director of Corporate Governance.
Angela was previously Head of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and expert advisor to both the Finance Committee of the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly. She was a Vice Chair of the Scottish Health Board.
Nationally, Angela is a member of the Suicide Leadership Group, the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Delivery Board, the Child Protection Leadership Group. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Improvement Service.
During Angela’s tenure, Aberdeen has undergone significant regeneration, while the council has adopted a new operating model to transform services and deliver required savings of £125million. Aberdeen became the first Scottish council to issue a bond on the London Stock Exchange and won the MJ Council of the Year Award in 2020.
