We are delighted to introduce our newest Chamber staff member, Matthew Joyce, Victorian Partnerships Manager. As you may already be aware, Matthew joined the Chamber in early May, marking a significant opportunity for further growth throughout the State and moreover, enhanced support for our many Victorian-based Members. Matthew has over 20 years' experience in the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industries, bringing a strong strategic perspective to the table, as well as a wealth of experience in building strong, meaningful business partnerships.
In order to help Members get to know Matthew, we conducted a short Q&A:
Matthew: I am Melbourne born and bred, but have worked in various locations across the country. In some of my previous roles, I spent time working at Uluru at the Ayers Rock Resort as well as hotels in Adelaide before spending 17 years in Travel and Technology with Amadeus, where I spent plenty of time in Japan looking after our hotel portfolio.
My professional life aside, I love spending time with my family! We are passionate about all things sport, travel and wine.
Matthew: Promoting Victoria! It's an incredible place to live and is consistently voted the world’s most liveable city but it's also a fantastic holiday destination. You can surf, ski, hike, see the arts, theatres, visit wineries, eat your way through the city, attend major sporting events or simply take in the café culture and enjoy a coffee.
As a place to do business there are few places better than Victoria. From infrastructure to technology, healthcare to finance, let's make it happen in Victoria!
Matthew: Growing up in Australia as a kid, the most loved/hated British figure would have to be Lord Ian Botham OBE. He could destroy the Australian cricket team like few others, however, as much as I disliked him doing it, it was pure enjoyment watching him play.
Matthew: As a family we love to travel, especially to the happiest place on earth - Disney Land! For our next trip I would love to take the kids to Uluru so they can experience the magic out there.
Most of our weekends as a family are consumed by watching the kids' activities. We're usually sat at the sidelines of a sporting match but there are a few musical performances thrown into the mix.
Matthew: I'm a fan of all sports, however without question the “Ball of the Century” from Shane Warne is the greatest memory of any Australia/UK sporting rivalry I can recall. For the next 5 years I wore a Nike Swoosh earring as a result of Warnie doing his thing!
A: Our Members are more than welcome to email me or connect with me on LinkedIn. I’d love to have a chat and start building some great partnerships throughout Victoria.
