Flowers of War Somme concert - Sacrifice: the Lost Songbirds of the Somme
The Flowers of War and the British High Commission and Consulates will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme through the following concert program entitled “Sacrifice – The Lost Songbirds of the Somme”
Canberra: Tuesday June 21, High Court of Australia Parkes Place, Parkes
Melbourne: Wednesday June 22, The Scots’ Church 1/156 Collins Street
Sydney: Friday June 24, St James Church King Street
This deeply moving and very special event will celebrate the contributions of twelve musicians from six nations (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Britain, Germany and France) who were lost, injured or deeply affected by their service at the Somme.
The concert will begin at 8pm with performers Andrew Goodwin (tenor), Anton Wurzer (accordion), Jason Craig (bagpipes) and the Sculthorpe String Quintet (Anna McDonald (violin), Rose Kavanagh v(iolin), Christopher Latham (violin & director), Tor Fromyhr (viola) and David Pereira (cello). The pre-concert discussion with artistic director Christopher Latham at 6.30pm will explore the impact of the battle on the villages of the Somme, and will tell the stories behind the music to be performed in the concert.
